William Hailstone is the only Greenhorn who is of no relation to any of the other Greenhorns. He was, however, also born in Yorkshire like the rest of the Greenhorns. Hailstone had no contact with the cousins though, prior to his trip on the Great Eastern. It was only on the ship that Hailstone first met John Morton and Samuel Brighouse. The pair of cousins then convinced him to join them and become wealthy together. The three went on to buy District Lot 185, the present-day area of the West End, and then later selling parts of their land to wealthy families, making themselves very wealthy men.
On a trip to England with Brighouse, instead of returning to BC, Hailstone decided to stay in England. In 1912, Hailstone died in the UK. Written by Emily L. |
