Leonard Lane
Leonard Lane a man who dedicated is life for bettering his community. He was born in Saskatchewan and moved to Vancouver when he was drafted from the army. After the army leanoard become a member of the fountain chapel. He did many things such as singing in the choir and organize many sports programs for the little kids. In 1950 he got married and started a family. He worked at a sawmill and was politicized when restaurants refused services when he went out to eat. Thats when he knew he wanted to fight discrimination, not just for him but for his community. He joined the the B.C advancement of coloured people and started getting to work in schools where they had school books having racist terms. He became one of the originals member Unity Credit Union. The credit unions lent loans to younger members of the black communities that wanted to buy a home. Leonard wanted to have the Credit Union as its own building but that never happened. The Unity Credit Unions become part of Vancity. This was the only thing that Leonard could not do. Leonard soon left Strathcona in the 1980 becoming retired and happy with his family.
