Shangri-La hotels and resorts is a Hong Kong based multinational hospitality company, founded by Robert Kuok in 1971. This building in the West End is their first North American property. Shangri-La is named after a mythical place in the novel, Lost Horizon. The company consists of 99 hotels and resorts with 38000 rooms in Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, and Australia. It stands as British Columbia’s tallest building at 62 storeys (202 meters). The building also has a private roof garden and residential units. It took 3.1 million man-hours of employment and $350 million CAD to build.
