Won Alexander Cumyow was the first Chinese born in Canada. He was a public servant and community leader, along with being the oldest son. He later married Ye Eva Chan. A Chinese Methodist missionary family had adopted Ye Eva and brought her to Canada from Hong Kong in 1988. Together Won Cumyow and Ye Eva had ten children and their third son, Gordon Won Cumyow, took over the position of court interpreter and became the first Chinese notary public in Canada. Unfortunately, Won Alexander died in Vancouver on October 6th, 1955.
