Gastown is often considered as the place where vancouver was born. Founded in the 1860s by Jack Deighton (Gassy Jack), the place still remains a historical attraction while maintaining a modern charm. Gastown is now a huge tourist attraction filled with nightclubs and shops too expensive for your average middle class person to shop at. However, right beside the expensive and exclusive gastown lies east hastings with a high concentration of homeless people. How is it that in one part of this little area new, upscale housing is on the rise while just a short distance away poverty is a very real crisis?
