Yaletown got it’s name when the railway moved it’s construction equipment and repair shops from Yale in the Fraser Canyon to the railway’s western terminus of Vancouver. In 1900, the city laid out streets and planned new eight-block warehouse district near the original Yaletown. In late 1920s, Vancouver created its first city plan and Yaletown was zoned for commercial and light industry Written By: A.D-L. |
In 1871, BC was a British colony while the rest of Canada was American. BC wanted to build a railroad connecting them to the rest of Canada and the rest of Canada wanted BC to join Canada. So, a deal was struck: Canada would build a railway to the west coast and BC would join Canada. Engine 374 is the engine that pulled the first Canadian transcontinental passenger train into Vancouver and helped make BC a part of Canada.
